Sorry for the late review. I have to say I had a good experience with this rental service (York train station Enterprise). The car we had rented was neat and in excellent condition, reasonable rental price. The only issue was as we brought the car back home from the Enterprise office, we noticed a few scratches and some white paint transfer on the lower front part of the car, to be honest we must have just missed it when we inspected the vehicle. I immediately rang the office and made them aware of it and was told to not worry and that it will be dealt when we returned the vehicle. On returning the vehicle two days later and after they inspected the damage that I had already mentioned to them, at first they weren't happy to accept that it wasn't us that caused the damage but later believed us and said it was something they would sort out and wouldn't charge us anything for it. Thank you to the new branch manager there (I think his name was Luke) for dealing with that. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and would use them again.
Worst car hire experience to date, shocking customer service. Booked a luxury class Volvo. Despite it being available when we checked in, car was given to another customer. Offered standard-class peugeot with no apology nor reimbursement for difference. Was then asked to drive the Peugeot to another depot 15min away to pick up our Volvo. We did this but when we got there, a customer service guy then drove us another 30min north to a VOLVO DEALERSHIP to pick up the car. Once again, no apologies at all, misinformed us that the third depot was 10min away and not 30min north. Set us back 1 hour in total, missed seeing Howard Castle.Not at all something I would expect from a global car hire company. Will avoid Alamo / Enterprise in the future.

I couldn't have been happier with our one-way rental from York to Dumfries. For one thing, Enterprise is the only agency that HAS a presence in both places, at least as best as I could determine. Both were conveniently located right by the train station. The staff of both were friendly and helpful, and they have a great fill/return same level gas policy, so you don't have the spend the final hour of your rental searching around for gas. They even offered to give us a lift 2 blocks to our hotel since it was raining. I am an Enterprise fan now.
It was really nice but the only down side was having to wait until the time slot we expected to arrive before getting the car.
